High school students interested in working in clean energy will have the chance to hear directly from industry employers and educators during a free, interactive webinar on Thursday 31 July 2025.

The one-hour session, hosted by TAFE NSW in partnership with the NSW Department of Education, is part of the Launch Your Career (LyC) series. It will run online via Microsoft Teams from 10:00am to 11:00am, with a recording available afterwards for those unable to attend live.

This event is specifically tailored for young people considering careers in solar, wind, hydro, transmission, or battery storage. As Australia moves towards its 2050 net-zero emissions target, the demand for skilled workers in the renewable energy sector continues to grow. It’s estimated more than 100,000 new jobs will be created in clean energy across Australia by mid-century, ranging from trades and technicians to engineers, project officers and planners.

LyC helps students explore industries and career pathways, making it easier for them to make informed decisions about life after school. By connecting students directly with employers and training providers, it gives them a real-world look at what’s involved.

The upcoming webinar aims to demystify what working in renewable energy actually looks like, from day-to-day tasks to the skills required. Students will hear about current training opportunities, including TAFE NSW’s own courses in areas like electrical trades, project management, and emerging technologies such as hydrogen and battery systems.

Chhavi Shaw from TAFE NSW, who will host the session, said, “I’m thrilled to be hosting Launch your Career in Renewable Energy. At TAFE NSW, we’re proud to help students take their first step into the renewables industry. This event is all about opening doors to exciting, impactful careers in clean energy. There’s so much essential information and it’s the perfect way to explore this fast-growing sector and discover where your passion can take you.”

The webinar will also explore how personal strengths and interests can shape career pathways in clean energy, a theme that is central to TAFE NSW’s updated suite of renewable energy training options. These cover areas from design and installation to safety and sustainability, with courses available across metro and regional campuses.

Events like this are essential to creating the pipeline for new workers, by showing students that renewables isn’t just about science or engineering – it can involve customer service, logistics, planning, or construction. There’s a huge variety of existing and upcoming roles in renewable energy, which will require workers from all many different backgrounds.
