Support investment and initiatives in skills development and workforce training to ensure a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and growth in the new energy sector within the Hunter region and NSW.
Supporting research initiatives and foster innovation to drive technological advancements and commercialisation in the new energy and hydrogen industries within the Hunter region and NSW.
Identify and support projects and investments that promote the development of new energy supply chains, infrastructure, and technologies within the Hunter region and NSW.
Strengthening outreach efforts and alliances to expand our network, engage with key stakeholders, promote and advocate for our region for the new energy and hydrogen industry at local, state, and national levels within the Hunter region and NSW.
Actively participate in world dialogue and summits, trade missions, national and international forums to showcase our expertise, explore collaboration opportunities, and promote the Hunter region and NSW as global leaders in new energy and hydrogen technologies.
In 2021 the Hunter region was chosen as the geographic base for NSW’s Hydrogen Technology Cluster and seeded as part of this cluster, NewH2 was formed. In 2024, NewH2 was rebranded to New.E, in recognition of the broader new energy industries. Now hosted at HunterNet – Australia’s leading industry cluster – New.E is supporting the NSW new energy economy by facilitating connections and sharing knowledge throughout the state and beyond.
New.E successfully transitioned to an industry-led model, with support from HunterNet, which marked a new era of industry collaboration and sustainability, ensuring that the Hunter region and NSW remain at the forefront of hydrogen and new energy innovation.
New.E has forged strategic alliances with government agencies and interstate partners, ensuring alignment with regional, state, and national cluster and industry development initiatives. These partnerships are instrumental in shaping policy, driving investment, and accelerating the transition to a new energy-based economy within the Hunter region and NSW.
Our partnership with the Port of Rotterdam – Platform Zero underscores our commitment to international collaboration and knowledge sharing as a lever for growth to our region.
Our commitment to collaboration extends beyond borders, as we actively welcome interstate and international delegates to participate in our initiatives. These partnerships facilitate knowledge transfer, foster innovation, and position the Hunter region and NSW as global leaders in new energy technology.
The University of Newcastle foundation partnership and New.E’s involvement in initiatives such as the Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub, NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub, and NSW TRaCE highlights our dedication to driving connections between industry, research and innovation in the new energy sector.
New.E hosts a series of knowledge exchange events throughout the year, providing a platform for industry leaders, researchers, and stakeholders to share insights, collaborate on key challenges, and drive innovation forward in the Hunter region and NSW.
We actively engage in the Hunter Hydrogen Taskforce, plus a range of consultations and working groups to develop future workforce skills, address industry challenges, identify opportunities for growth, and shape the future direction of the new energy economy.
Clare is Co-Lead of New.E and Managing Director of Forelight Advisory. Clare’s expertise is in the leadership of multi stakeholder initiatives including technology and decarbonisation strategy, place-based industry development and mission-based innovation programs. She is a strong collaborator and advocate of future resource and energy industries including the symbiosis of clean technology solutions to traditional processes and value chains.
Clare is a mining engineer (UNSW} – who also holds applied finance qualifications – is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD}, a Churchill Fellow, and member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy
(AuslMM}. She serves on the Advisory Board of the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub and Newcastle Institute of Energy and Resources (NIER}. She is a Commissioner – NSW Independent Planning Commission, Chair- Resources NSW, and a member of the Hunter Hydrogen Taskforce.
Boris is Co-Lead of New.E and Managing Director of Science & Technologies Knowhow. Boris’ expertise is in mobilising new venture collaborations, sense making of complementary technology solutions for integrated commercial strategies, and maturing governance frameworks for businesses seeking succession solutions. He is a keen advocate for the repatriation of manufacturing to Australia, and especially the Hunter region
Boris is an Electronics & Electrical Engineer (UNSW) who spent nearly 30 years in with Defence and the Defence Industry as a founder of an innovative systems engineering business. The Judge for The Collaboration Award and Rising Star Award in The Hunter Manufacturing Awards (HMA), Boris was the inaugural Chair of NewH2 prior to it coming under the stewardship of HunterNet and transitioning to New.E. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and Chairs two commercial Advisory Boards.
Maintaining business interests in innovation for complex problems, Boris has grown a passion for the energy and resources industry and considers the present to be an exciting and especially privileged time to be an engineer.
