Meet the companies delivering the region’s new energy future
Format: Full day showcase & tour
Participants: Symposium delegates (limited capacity)
Date: Wednesday, 27th May 2026
Time: 7:45am – 5:00pm
Location: HunterNet & Hunter region site visits
The Hunter New Energy Industry Showcase is a new addition to Hunter New Energy Week, curated by New.E and HunterNet to spotlight the organisations delivering real-world energy solutions in and from the Hunter region.
While the Symposium focuses on the strategic theme of Delivery, the Showcase is where you meet the people actually building, commercialising and deploying the technologies.
The line-up spans the full ecosystem, from early-stage startups and university spin-outs through to scale-ups and established manufacturers, reflecting the Hunter’s unique strength across the entire value chain.

Meet the organisations presenting at the Showcase—spanning startups, scale-ups, researchers and established manufacturers across the Hunter’s new energy ecosystem.
A $280m collaboration between UNSW, the University of Newcastle, industry partners and the Commonwealth, moving clean-energy and recycling research from the lab to market. The overview frames how some of the morning’s featured startups and spin-outs connect into a national commercialisation pipeline.
CSIRO-co-founded Newcastle venture commercialising particle-based Concentrated Solar Thermal technology, delivering zero-emission industrial heat and power up to 1,200°C. Raised Australia’s largest CSIRO-co-founded seed round to date and is headquartered at the CSIRO Energy Centre
Carbon measurement, strategy and project delivery specialists supporting organisations to plan, implement and verify emissions-reduction and nature-based carbon projects.
Newcastle-founded startup exploring buoyancy-based long-duration energy storage: storing energy by submerging floats in water and releasing it as they rise. A mirror-image of gravity storage, designed for bodies of water the Hunter has in abundance.
Developer of eArc, the world’s first commercially available glass-free, lightweight, flexible solar module — opening up solar generation on roofs and surfaces that conventional panels can’t support. Strong Australian heritage through founder Dr Zhengrong Shi (UNSW).
University of Newcastle spin-out producing clean ammonia from air and water using a novel catalyst, bypassing the carbon-intensive Haber-Bosch process. A foundational enabler for green fertiliser, clean fuel and hydrogen storage.
Hunter-manufactured micro-emulsion flow battery technology for long-duration energy storage, with a commercial-scale system recently delivered to Eraring Power Station. Most components made locally — a live example of Hunter supply chain depth. The site tour will include Allegro Energy’s factory or proceed to site where the first battery is being deployed with Origin Energy at Eraring.
An Australian clean‑energy innovator enabling heavy industry to decarbonise through thermal energy storage. Their MGA Blocks store and deliver reliable, low‑cost industrial‑grade heat, helping customers shift away from fossil fuels, towards renewable energy.
Pursuing an ambition to deploy community-layered energy storage solutions, targeting a narrow and largely ignored segment of the energy market that sits between household batteries and grid-scale storage.
Established Hunter structural steel fabricator and contractor with a growing portfolio in renewables and energy infrastructure: a direct example of how traditional Hunter manufacturing capability is being redeployed into new energy projects. Proud bus and lunch sponsor of the day.
Hunter-based startup developing a novel engine and fuel system that runs on non-upgraded pyrolysis bio-oil: targeting hard-to-electrify heavy transport with net-negative CO₂ emissions via integrated biochar production.
Bloomfield Group-owned Rutherford-based manufacturer, producing biodiesel from used cooking oils since 2003: one of Australia’s longest-operating biofuel producers and a direct supplier into the national transport fuel supply chain.
The Commonwealth statutory body coordinating Australia’s transition to a net zero economy — supporting workers in closing coal-fired generation regions, catalysing investment in new industries, and the policy interface between Canberra and regions like the Hunter. NZEA will be presenting on the findings from The Hunter and Central Coast Transmission Infrastructure Supplier Showcase.
Newcastle-based electric-vehicle conversion specialists, retrofitting classic cars, 4WDs, buses and fleet vehicles to electric drive, plus building mobile energy-storage trailers. Extending the life of 21 million existing Australian vehicles rather than scrapping them.
Strengthening the visibility of the Hunter’s new energy supply chain: enabling businesses to clearly position and communicate their capability to investors, partners and customers.
A sequence of short, high-impact presentations from participating organisations, offering insight into the technologies, projects and capabilities shaping the region.
Presentations run back-to-back through the morning, alongside brief context from initiatives such as TRaCE and the Net Zero Economy Authority.
