TAFE NSW has opened enrolments for a Statement of Attainment in Sustainable Work Practices in Manufacturing, designed specifically for people currently employed in the sector. Eligibility requires applicants to provide evidence of employment, including a resume and a signed letter from their employer, along with prior experience or study.

The course sits within the Manufacturing Centres of Excellence program and is only available to people living in New South Wales. It is delivered part-time over seven weeks, combining on-campus, online and workplace-based learning, with classes scheduled in the evenings.

Focus on workplace application rather than theory alone

The course centres on applying sustainability practices directly within a working manufacturing environment. Participants will learn to audit and record resource use, assess compliance with environmental regulations and review existing efficiency systems.

The program also covers setting sustainability targets, recommending improvements, and tracking and reporting outcomes over time. These elements are structured to align with day-to-day operational roles rather than standalone academic study.

Skills tied to compliance and reporting requirements

Completion of the course leads to a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment and builds capability in areas that intersect with regulatory and operational requirements. These include monitoring environmental performance, documenting resource use and contributing to internal reporting processes.

The training is designed to support roles such as operators, technicians, supervisors and team leaders, with an emphasis on improving how manufacturing businesses manage environmental responsibilities at a practical level.

Entry conditions reflect workplace integration

TAFE NSW has set clear expectations around entry, requiring participants to have access to a real or simulated manufacturing environment. The course also assumes a baseline level of literacy, numeracy and digital capability, along with the ability to work independently and contribute to group discussions.

These conditions position the course as an applied training pathway, rather than an entry-level introduction to manufacturing.

Delivered locally with a short turnaround

The next intake is scheduled to begin on 6 May 2026 at the Newcastle Tighes Hill campus, with a weekly time commitment of up to 15 hours. The course is offered at no cost, although additional materials may not be included.

With its short duration and workplace focus, the program is structured to allow participants to test and implement changes within their own operations while still enrolled, rather than deferring outcomes until after completion.
