Expressions of interest are now open for industry attendees wanting to visit key hydrogen-related ports and industrial hubs in New South Wales as part of the lead-up to the 2025 APAC Hydrogen Summit, which takes place in Sydney on 20–21 November.
From 17 to 19 November, before the main Summit begins, a program of regional events will offer participants a chance to see how hydrogen production, distribution, and trade infrastructure is developing in NSW. Confirmed stops include Port Kembla in the Illawarra region and Newcastle in the Hunter region, with a trade and ports forum planned in Sydney.
The visit to Port Kembla on Monday 17 November will give participants a look at the Illawarra Hydrogen Hub, which is home to several current and planned hydrogen projects. These include Australia’s first hydrogen truck refuelling station, export infrastructure at the port, and Hysata’s electrolyser manufacturing facility, said to be the world’s most efficient. The facility is designed to lower the cost of green hydrogen with an efficiency rate of 95%. Coregas and BOC also operate hydrogen facilities in the area.
The following day, on Tuesday 18 November, the program moves to Newcastle, where visitors will see infrastructure supporting the Clean Energy Precinct and the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub. Newcastle’s port has been identified as a major site for hydrogen and ammonia production and export, backed by strong transmission lines, a skilled workforce and existing industrial capacity. The Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub is currently being developed to deliver green hydrogen to Orica’s ammonia plant and to strengthen supply chains around the port and nearby industrial zones.
On Wednesday 19 November, an industry forum in Sydney will bring together stakeholders to look at the role of ports in the hydrogen economy. The session will focus on trade, infrastructure and port readiness to support hydrogen exports. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with leaders from ports already planning or trialling hydrogen exports.
“This exclusive forum will help advance hydrogen trade by unlocking the demand, expertise and infrastructure from ports in key markets from around the world.”
The regional program is expected to give participants a better understanding of local capabilities and export-readiness ahead of the APAC Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition held in Sydney on 20–21 November. The main event will bring together over 2,500 industry and government representatives from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
EOIs to attend the Port Kembla and Newcastle site visits, as well as the Sydney trade and ports forum, are open now and close at 5:00PM AEST on Thursday 31 July 2025.
