AEMO Services has launched its latest competitive tender process for Long-Term Energy Service Agreements (LTESAs) under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, with a focus on long duration storage (LDS) projects. The tender is open to eligible projects located anywhere in New South Wales that can begin operating by 2034.
This round, known as Tender Round 6, has an indicative target of 1 gigawatt (GW) of capacity, or at least 8 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage. Projects that can be delivered in the short term are particularly encouraged to take part, as the state aims to reach a minimum of 1.2 GW/9.6 GWh of LDS by 2030.
The targets are set under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act (EII Act), which includes a minimum of 2 GW and 16 GWh of LDS by 2030, and 28 GWh by 2034. While the current round has a stated target, AEMO Services, acting as the NSW Consumer Trustee, may choose to award contracts above or below this level if it is considered to be in the long-term financial interests of electricity consumers and meets the requirements of the EII Act.
The process is designed to support delivery of electricity infrastructure that offers long-term value to NSW households and businesses. Projects selected through the tender will contribute to the state’s shift to a more reliable, cleaner energy system.
Registrations to submit a bid must be completed by 5:00pm on Thursday, 29 May 2025. Once registered through the online portal, proponents can access the Project Bid Form and must submit final proposals by 5:00pm on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.
Tender participants who have taken part in earlier NSW Roadmap rounds will be able to reuse and build on previous bid materials, making the submission process more efficient.
