The public is now invited to share their views on the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP), as part of a formal review into how the scheme is functioning and whether it’s meeting the goals set by Parliament.

The EIJP is designed to support workers affected by the closure of coal- and gas-fired power stations, helping them prepare for future employment. The plan was established under Part 5 of the Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2024, and is administered by the Net Zero Economy Authority.

The current review is a legal requirement under the Act and must be completed by 10 December 2025. It is being led by Emeritus Professor Roy Green AM, supported by the Authority. Professor Green will examine whether the EIJP is operating as intended and explore if any changes are needed to make it more effective.

The consultation process includes a newly released discussion paper and a series of regional visits. These will take place across affected areas including the Hunter, Latrobe, Adelaide, Central Queensland and Collie. Submissions close at 11:59 PM AEST on 5 September 2025.

The review seeks feedback on how the EIJP process has impacted you, as well as your perspectives on what supports workers and businesses may need now or in the future.

Professor Green is keen to hear from people with direct or indirect experience of the EIJP, including workers, unions, businesses, and community groups. Participants are encouraged to provide case studies or data to support their feedback.

‘The energy transition is already underway and we appreciate individuals and businesses sharing their experiences with us. These discussions will build an important evidence base to assess how the EIJP framework is operating now and will operate into the future,” Professor Green said.

consultation paper has been developed to support participation in the process.

The consultation paper is available on the Authority’s Consultation Hub and includes questions grouped under three themes:

  • How the EIJP has worked so far
  • How it’s expected to work
  • What may be needed to keep it useful into the future

If you have questions, you can contact the EIJP team via email at: EIJPreview@pmc.gov.au
