The Port of Newcastle is partnering with Macquarie Group’s Green Investment Group and the Commonwealth Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to support the development of a hydrogen economy in the NSW Hunter region.
Leading engineering professional services consulting firm WSP has joined the study as technical advisor. WSP are recommending an optimal site within the Port, delivering a preliminary engineering design and providing environmental planning services to the project including a full suite of project management engineering (process electrical/grid connection water maritime/ports and civil)geotechnical contaminated land cost estimating environmental/planning and safety and risk services to the project.
The first stage of the Green Hydrogen Hub Project will be underpinned by a 40-megawatt electrolyser with a view to increase that capacity to more than a gigawatt over time and will deliver green hydrogen and green ammonia for domestic and export use.
