Hunter iF is inviting people across the Hunter to take part in a regional survey that aims to better understand who is driving innovation, what kinds of activities are underway, and what challenges are getting in the way.
This work is part of Hunter iF’s broader effort to support innovation across the region through connection, data and collaboration. The survey is open to local businesses, researchers and individuals, and is designed to take around 10 minutes to complete.
The insights collected will help paint a clearer picture of the Hunter’s innovation ecosystem. By identifying strengths, gaps and opportunities, the data will be used to guide investment decisions and support planning by individuals, businesses and all levels of government.
The survey also aims to build a shared resource that helps people find collaborators and better understand how regional activity is evolving.
The person who provides the most thoughtful and impactful response will receive two tickets to the 2025 Hunter Innovation Festival, returning for its 23rd year on 25 September.
This year’s festival will be held at Newcastle City Hall. It will feature local and visiting speakers, opportunities to connect with others working in innovation, and discussions focused on the future of the region.
Hunter iF has been at the centre of regional innovation work since it was formed in 2018 as a not-for-profit member-based organisation. It was established following the release of The iF Report in 2017, which identified the need for a central body to help drive innovation and collaboration across the Hunter. That report drew on input from more than 300 people and over 200 stakeholder groups.
The Hunter Innovation Festival itself dates back to 2002, when it began as a grassroots initiative linked to the Australian Innovation Festival. It has long been a platform for bringing together creative thinkers, entrepreneurs and others interested in developing new ideas and approaches.
Over time, key programs such as the Regional Incubator Program and Startup Xpress have supported early-stage businesses and connected regional talent with new audiences and investors.
This new survey continues that work, helping to map what’s happening now and where efforts can be focused next.
