Independent contamination prevention and remediation research body crcCARE, founded by Laureate Professor Ravi Naidu from the University of Newcastle, has launched planetCARE Academy – an online education platform aimed at building skills in environmental monitoring, assessment and clean-up.

Since its inception in 2005, crcCARE has played an important role in how Australia addresses environmental contamination, working across government, research and industry to improve responses to pollution. The launch of planetCARE Academy builds on this work by providing accessible education tools for anyone interested in contributing to environmental clean-up and prevention.

The planetCARE Academy is designed to support people working in or entering the environmental field, including consultants, students, researchers, policymakers, and individuals with a personal interest in environmental protection. It offers flexible access to a wide range of materials, from expert-led lectures and articles to blogs, vlogs and real-world case insights. Users can choose to pay per content or subscribe monthly, with an option to donate to help keep the platform growing.

The aim is to give users practical skills and up-to-date knowledge in areas like soil and water contamination, air pollution, and waste management. Courses and resources are developed and reviewed by professionals in the field, ensuring the learning is relevant to current industry needs.

The academy is part of a broader mission led by crcCARE’s international alliance, globalCARE, which brings together scientists, institutions and communities to address the impacts of chemical contamination on health and the environment. The academy reflects the next step in sharing that knowledge widely, particularly in regions that lack technical resources.

Laureate Professor Naidu described planetCARE Academy as a learning hub for anyone wanting to take action on pollution – whether through study, work, or community engagement.

“We envision a future where no nation is left behind in the fight against pollution,” he said.

“Through this Academy, we welcome everyone i.e.,. from students and professionals to policymakers and concerned citizens – to learn, act, contribute and sustain the planet for future generations.”

Interested learners can now explore the academy online and choose a pathway that suits their experience and goals.
