The NSW Government’s Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund (NPCCF) Round 9 is now open, inviting eligible organisations to apply for grants between $10,000 and $250,000 for projects that improve local infrastructure, amenities, programs, or events within and around the Port of Newcastle. Applications close on 1 December 2025.
The program, funded and administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, aims to revitalise and energise the port area through projects that enhance public spaces, support community connection, and encourage tourism. Eligible initiatives might include upgrades to community facilities, heritage restoration, environmental improvement works, or activities that promote accessibility and inclusion.
According to the program guidelines, the fund’s key objectives are to “foster stronger community bonds, enhance accessibility, boost visitation, increase participation in cultural and artistic life, and enhance public, environmental or business infrastructure.”
Projects can include a wide range of activities—from environmental works and cultural events to upgrades of shared business infrastructure. Examples include improving public spaces, creating accessible outdoor areas, upgrading port facilities such as boat ramps, or delivering local programs that promote sustainability and community participation.
Round 9 funding is open to community organisations, local councils, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, not-for-profits, education providers, and eligible businesses operating within the designated port area. Private businesses will need to demonstrate financial viability and provide a 50% cash co-contribution toward their projects. Not-for-profit organisations and Local Aboriginal Land Councils are not required to provide matching funds but are encouraged to offer in-kind or financial support where possible.
Applications will be assessed competitively against merit and eligibility criteria. The department notes that demand often exceeds available funds, and not all eligible projects can be supported. Final decisions will be made by the Minister for Regional NSW, based on recommendations from an assessment panel of departmental staff, local experts, and independent representatives.
Successful applicants will be required to enter into a funding deed and complete their projects within the agreed timeframe. Anticipated assessment outcomes are expected from February 2026.
Applicants are encouraged to review the program guidelines and FAQs, view the online information session, and allow enough time to submit applications before the closing date. Multiple applications can be made, but each must relate to a single project within the eligible area.
