MGA Thermal

MGA Thermal
Cut Costs. Cut Carbon. Stay Hot.

Founded in 2019 after more than a decade of materials science research at the University of Newcastle, MGA Thermal is an Australian clean energy innovator delivering next generation latent heat Thermal Energy Storage. Our proprietary Miscibility Gap Alloy (MGA) Blocks store intermittent renewable electricity as heat, delivering continuous, low cost, industrial grade steam 24/7.

Industrial and manufacturing businesses are under pressure from rising energy costs, supply chain volatility, net zero commitments and the need for constant uptime. Staying competitive means securing reliable, low-cost heat.

We partner with forward thinking industrials across food and beverage, minerals processing, chemicals, paper and packaging, building materials manufacturing and oil and gas to help them:

•Cut energy costs by 20-40%
•Lock in long term cost certainty and reduce reliance on fossil fuels
•Improve energy security with dispatchable heat
•Reduce downtime and boost productivity
•Lower Scope 1 & 2 emissions and avoid carbon liabilities
•Unlock revenue upside through grid services and green premiums

Engineered for large scale industry, our technology provides a viable, zero emissions alternative to fossil fuelled heat – accelerating industrial decarbonisation.

Strong Momentum.
In partnership with Knode, MGA Thermal has commenced Front-Engineering and Design (FEED) for Australia’s largest industrial thermal storage project: a 195 MWh flagship installation in Kwinana. This follows the successful launch of our 5 MWh demonstration unit in April 2025, proving commercial readiness. These milestones build on strong momentum, including a $17 million capital raise in March 2026 and a $3.25 million ARENA grant supporting five additional FEED studies nationwide.

Recognised for Excellence.
MGA Thermal continues to earn acclaim for its groundbreaking work in thermal energy storage, recently receiving prestigious awards including:

•2025 Australian Renewable Heat Award for Outstanding Industrial Electrification Project (Winner)
•2025 Financial Review Energy Awards for Innovation (Finalist)
•2024 Australian Climate Tech Award in the Impact category (Winner)
•2022 Innovation Aus Translation Hero Award for excellence in research commercialisation (Winner)
