Business Hunter will host an infrastructure lunch in Newcastle next week centred on the Hunter’s energy and infrastructure pipeline and what it may mean for the region’s business community.

The event, scheduled for 18 March at Newcastle City Hall, will feature a presentation from EnergyCo Chief Executive Officer Hannah McCaughey, who will provide an update on renewable energy and transmission projects progressing across the region.

As the gateway to the energy transition, the Hunter is experiencing a wave of planning and delivery activity tied to new generation, transmission and enabling infrastructure. These developments are expected to shape how the region grows, attracts investment and builds future capability.

EnergyCo coordinating major infrastructure projects

EnergyCo is the NSW Government agency responsible for coordinating Renewable Energy Zones and priority transmission infrastructure across the state.

Through this work, the agency links energy policy with the delivery of large infrastructure projects that support the electricity system. In describing the role these developments will play in the region, Business Hunter notes that these projects are critical foundations for industry, workforce growth and regional development across the Hunter.

Update from EnergyCo’s chief executive

At the Newcastle event, McCaughey will outline the progress of current projects and discuss priorities and timeframes for the year ahead.

McCaughey has more than 25 years’ experience delivering complex energy and infrastructure projects in Australia and the United Kingdom. According to the event organisers, she will provide an update on progress, priorities and timing, with a practical focus on what this large-scale investment in clean technology means for business and industry on the ground.

What businesses may take from the session

The discussion will cover several themes relevant to companies operating in the Hunter.

These include the current status of the region’s energy and transmission infrastructure pipeline, delivery priorities and timeframes for the next 12 months, and the implications for workforce demand and skills development.

The session will also explore how companies can position themselves to participate in upcoming work linked to the region’s growing energy infrastructure program. Business Hunter describes the event as bringing delivery priorities, timelines, and investment opportunities — all in one session, inviting businesses to hear directly from EnergyCo about what the next year may hold for the Hunter’s energy sector.
