Ampcontrol’s historical roots lie in the Hunter, with corporate headquarters now located in Tomago, and with operations across Australia and overseas. Ampcontrol’s Tomago site employ approximately 500 people in engineering, manufacturing and testing roles.
A key characteristic of Ampcontrol’s resources and renewables products is their mobility and relocatability, enabling equipment such as entire substations and switchrooms to be moved as customer’s site development activities are completed. These are variously built on powered tracks, wheels or skids.
The mining division produces explosion protected electrical equipment for hazardous areas where the focus is on high power delivery in compact assemblies, using Ex d, Ex p and Ex s techniques, with a particular emphasis on personnel electrical safety.
The transformer division undertakes bespoke transformer design and manufacture facility that utilises advanced CAD and hand-wound coils to realise specialised products such as the 7 MVA hermetically sealed dry type (GNAN) transformer and the novel SEN transformer.
The electrical testing facility is capable of delivering test voltages in excess of 1000 kV, and undertakes full load testing of transformers and VSD motor drives using back-to-back arrangements.
